Google Drive comes packed with a state-of-the-art, multilingual support system that can be contacted via phone, chat, or email. Microsoft Office takes the cake on raw processing power. Even in terms of security, their offerings are mostly similar, with two-factor authentication and restricted file-sharing options across the two platforms.įor users, the only deciding factor here seems to be which of the two companies’ productivity platforms they are most familiar with. Users can have their documents across Office synced in real-time with various devices, and collaborate on projects with several other users at once.Īt the end of the day, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive offer similar features across their cloud storage platforms. This is unlike Google Workspace, whose applications can only be accessed through a web browser window on desktop computers.Ĭontrary to popular misconception, Microsoft OneDrive offers real-time collaboration features that work just as well as Google Drive’s. Users who are more familiar with an offline work atmosphere will feel right at home with Office, what with the company’s productivity platform offering downloadable apps across Windows and macOS. OneDrive offers very much the same file syncing and collaboration features as Google Drive, but it has been designed to work in conjunction with the former’s own productivity suite, Microsoft Office. You should know that the Google Drive options, My Drive or Shared drives, do not have the same permission structure as the Windows file system. If you're currently using Windows shares for file storage and looking for an alternative, Google Drive may be of interest to you. If you've already created Shared drives with generic names and want to rename them, simply right click on your Shared drive name and select "Rename." If necessary, communicate that you've renamed it with the rest of the team. You want to be sure your Shared drive name will remain unique to your project. Remember, all Connect Google Workspace users across campus can create and manage Shared drives. Be sure to use Shared Drive names that are unique to your department and team. When you create a Shared drives, Google has no restrictions on naming conventions. We strongly recommend planning your file structure for your Shared drives. It will help keep your space organized and allow for easier navigation to your files. It's important to adhere to some best practices when creating and sharing files and folders on My Drive and Shared drives. Both of these services provide real time editing when using Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms. My Drive and Shared Drives are distinct offerings from Google that both allow for file storage and collaboration. The navigation bar on the left provides you with options for accessing your files.
